COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TO: City Council Project Data
FROM: City Manager Approved in F.Y. Budget: 1982/83
Fund: Federal Revenue Sharing
DATE: June 10, 1983 Amount Budgeted: $30,000
Total Project Estimate: $30,000
SUBJECT: Lodi Lake Park Picnic Shelter Bid Opening Date: July 13, 1983
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications
or the above project and authorize advertisement for bids thereon.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION This project consists of the construction of a steel
tame, concrete tile roof shelter (approximately 1000 SO with a concrete slab.
The shelter will be located at the north point of the Lodi Lake Park.
The original budget estimate included the purchase of a prefabricated steel
frame and installation with an asphalt shingle roof. However, discussions with
a local contractor indicated that the pre -fab structure could be built locally
at nearly half the cost. To do this, we engaged.a local structural engineer
to design the structure. In addition, we were able to have the structure en-
gineered to su rt a concrete tile roof which would result in lower maintenance.

The total project estimate for this phase of the project is higher than the
budget estimate. However, the cost of the Right-of-Way.acquisition phase was
sufficiently ow the estimate to cover the construction overrun.

Project, Vine St. to Tokay St.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications
or the above project and authorize advertisement for bids thereon and defer
minor widening at Vine and Tokay until needed.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project includes the reconstruction of the pave-
ment, replacement o an existing 81' storm drain with a 12" line and spot patch-
ing of only severely deteriorated driveway type gutter on the east side.
The estimated project cost is substantially lower than the budgeted amount
because the project approved by the Council last year included minor widening
at Vine Street and Tokay Street. The widening will not be needed until some
future date when four lanes and a turn pocket are required at the intersections.
Doing this now would require replacement of a substantial amount of good curb,
gutter and sidewalk and the acquisition of right-of-way. It is recommended that
this widening/bf deterred until traffic volumes warrant the additional lanes.
