CALIFORNIA 95241 (209) 334-5634 May 21, 1982 Senator David Roberti State Capitol Sacramento, CA 95814 Dear Senator Roberti: HENRY A. CLAVL5. It City Manager ALICE M. REIMCHE City Clerk RONALD AA STEIN City Attorney The severe revenue reductions proposed for the Cities of California presently under discussion challenges the preservation of effective municipal government in the State of California. The impact of going beyond a $250 million cut for cities and reducing city subventions by approximately $412 million --or elimination of the vehicle in lieu license fee and cigarette?: tax subventions, would amount to approximately $33.00 per capita or an approximately $888,000 reduction to the City of Lodi. This type of reduction takes away funding from the Government which is the closest to the people and is responsible for services that affect the daily lives of our cities. Proposition 13 resulted in cost cutting efforts at every level of local government by cities throughout California, Essential services have had to be reduced and necessary capital improvement projects deferred or eliminated. It is essential that local Government be able to continue essential local services with adequate funding. The City Council of the City of Lodi urges your opposition to the proposals presently under consideration to drastically reduce local funding. BY ORDER OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL Alice M. Rimche City Clerk AR: dg
