COUNTY CITY COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 7, 1982 City Clerk Reimche presented a letter and a copy of a resolution regarding the high youth unemployment rate in San Joaquin County which had been received from Karan F. Minick, Chairman, Private Industry Council, asking ` that the Lodi City Council join with them in working to help Sari Joaquin County Youth make the transition from school to work. March 18, 1982 TO THE SAN JOAQU I N COLN" COMIUN I TY : The Private industry Council is deeply concerned with the high ,youth unemployment rate in our county. It is for this reason we passed the attached resolution at our `larch meeting which addresses the problem. We ask that you join with us in working to help San Joaquin County youth make the transition from school to work. Presently, we are reviewing all of our programs to determine their effectiveness in training unemployed residents of the county for jobs that are in demand. 1n ad- dition, we are studying programs from all over the nation to assess if there are any which will help with our local youth employment problems. We hope to have such a program in place before September. We offer our services to you in an advisory capacity, as representatives of a cross section of business, education, labor, and the community, to assist you in your efforts to address youth unemployment. RESOLUrr ION WIIEREAS, the January 1982 unemployment rate in San Joaquin County is 16.7 percent and the unemployment rate for youth in San Joaquin County has been estimated at more than 24 percent at present; and WHEREAS, the Private Industry Council is a nonprofit corporation composed of leaders of business, labor, government and the community whose purpose is to promote training -and employment; and WI1h_..AS, tine Members of the Board of Directors of the Private industry Council are concerned with the present lack of vocational guidance, job placement, and follow-up services provided to youth; NOW, T11EREFORl , BE IT RESOLVED: that the Private Industry Council urges that greater emphasis be placed on vocational guidance, job placement. and follow un services for youth at all stagers of educational process.
