RE9OI=ON ENDORSING THE GREAT CALIFORNIA
MZOUPCE RALLY APRIL 18-24, 1983
WTUMAS, California currently disposes of more than 35
million tons of non -hazardous solid waste each year in landfills;
and
WHEREAS, by 1986 California will lose more than 45 percent
of its sanitary landfill capacity, and
WHEREAS, Californians spend more than $1.3 'billion each year
to collect, transfer, haul, and bury solid wastes containing
hundreds of millions of dollars of valuable resources and energy
that could be reused, r --cycled or recovered; and
WHEREAS, the problem of litter continues to plague
California's cities and counties costing the taxpayers an
additional $100 million a year; and
WHEREAS, the California Waste Kviagement. Board is the state
agency assisting and encouraging community program in solid waste
management planning and enforcement, recycling, resource reLse,
energy recovery, litter control and public education and
participation; and
WHEREAS? the California Waste Management Board—with the
support of hundnAs of California public interest groups,
businesses and local governments—is sponsoring the Great
California Resource Rally to be held April 18-24, 1983, to raise*
Californians awareness of the state's impendirq garbage crisis and
encourage citizen participation in litter control, recycling and
waste reduction activities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lodi in concert with the San Joaquin
County Board of Supervisors have a critical lealersliip role in
helping California find solutions to its solid waste management
problem;
NOW, MMUORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of 'the
City of Lodi hereby endorses the Great California Resource Rally,
April .18-24, 1983, and urges citi7ens, local businesses,
government leaders and agencies to participate in Resource Rally
activities, further;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE = OF IMI encourages Californians
to help our state win its war on waste thrcugh year-long
recycling, litter contrc,l and other waste management efforts.
