Katnich Mayor, City of Lodi City Hall 221 West Pine Street Lodi, CA 95240 Attention Alice Reims he E Dear Mayor Katnich: Once again, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, in conjunction with a large number of cities, counties and fair housing groups, is promoting April as Fair Housing Month. Fair Housing Month is especially significant this year because it marks the 20th anniversary of the passage of the Rumford Fair Housing Act, thr predecessor of the current fai~ ho+,sing portion of the Fair Employment and Housing Act (Government Code Section 12900 et seq.). We urge you to join us in furthering fair housing and celebrating the anniversary of this historic event by declaring April 1983 as Fair Housing Month. I have enclosed a sample proclamation for your convenience. I welcome a response from you or your aide at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Ms. Susan Levenson, Housing Intern for George Macias, District Administrator SL:wpc Enclosure SIM or CAUPOR ► 1@ George Dmktlej Ion, Governor EXHIBIT I AMPLE PROCLAMATION PROCLAMATION ISSUED BY THE ` COUNTY; CI TY OF WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States and the Le;islature of the State of California have enacted laws which guarantee the rights of equal housing opportunity; AND WHEREAS, 1953 marks the 20th anniversary of the Rumford Fair Housing Act, the predecessor of the current fair housing port on of the Fair Employment and Housing Act. AND WHEREAS, the City/County of recognizes the work of the Federal Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) and the State Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) in attempting to promote fair housing opportunities in our community via the lawful means of either Title VIII of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1968 or the State Fair Employment and Housing Act; AND WHEREAS, HUD and DFEH have, over the years, received numerous complaints of alleged illegal housing discrimination and found many that have proven, upon investigation, to be violations of fair housing laws in California; AND WHEREAS, DFEH has seen fit to create an inforinational housing hotline for the citizens of the State of California in order to answer questions concerning discrimination in housing; AND WHEREAS, equal housing opportunity is a condition of life in our City that can and should be achieved; NOW, T;iEREFORE, I , Mayor/Supervisor of the City/County of , oh eha o fts citizens do hereby proclaim April as "Fair Housing ont and express the hope teat this observance will make a significant step towards attaining fair housing as a reality in this City/County and the rest of the State of California.
