SUBJECT: RBC)pGANIZATION of RIE LODI CI y COLII�IL
Se., -tion 2.04.070 of the Lodi Municipal Code provides that "the presiding
officer of the council shall be the mayor who shall be elected annually on the
Tuesday after the general municipal election and on the first regular meeting
in April in the years when there is no general municipal election "• This
section of the code further provides that at the tire' of the election of the
mayor, one of the nvnbers of the council shall be chosen as Mayor Pro Tempore.
The procedu_e that traditionally has been followed for the election of the
Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore in the City of Lodi is as follows:

1. At this point in the agenda, the Mayor steps clown from his seat
and hands the gavel to the City Clerk. The Clerk then takes the -
Mayor's seat and calls for nominations for the office of Mayor
following parliamentary procedure for the election of officers as
set forth in Robert's Rules of order.
Upon the election of the new Mayor, the City Clerk then steps
down frac, the Mayor's seat and hands the gavel to the newly
elected Mayor. The Mayor then calls for nominations for the
office of Mayor Pro Tempore and the election of the Mayor Pro
Tempore is conducted under the same parliamentary procedure.
once the gavel is handed to the new Mayor, he/she will assume the
duties of the presiding officer of. the Council for the balance of
the meeting.
