M E M O R A N D U M TO: Henry Glaves, Jr., City Manager FROM: Ed DeBenedetti, Director, Recreation and Parks SUBJECT: Concert - Lodi Grape Bowl DATE: March 12, 1982 I was recently approached by a gentleman from Stockton, who requested use of the Grape Bowl for a concert considered to be soft rock and gospel from a musical aspect. I talked to him as well as his wife and father-in-law, and I am sure that we would be working with fine young people but who may lack experience in this field. Their proposed show is quality; as a matter of fact, both groups just recently won awards on TV and are considered tops. They have requested the following of the City: 1. Stadium 2. A 30 x 40' stage, which we can borrow from the Festival. 3. Lights, restrooms, dressing rooms 4. Concession privileges In return, the City would be guaranteed: 1. $2,000.00 up front 2. 10% of all concessions 3. The City will be paid for cleanup and all utilities 4. Promoter would provide: a. Insurance naming the City as additional insured b. Security, both inside and outside c. Pay for extra police traffic patrol, amount to be discussed with Police Department d. External cleanup, if needed I am in favor of the rental with two provisions: 1. That the utilities that are there now are adequate to handle the show. If the City needs to add more, it would be at promoter's expense. 2. That the City receive 5% of the first $10,000 over $50,000 gross and 2% for any amount over the $60,000 gross. The promoters would appreciate your earliest reply to their request. Also, in negotiating a contract I would ask that if this show is successful and they want to promote others, the Stadium would be their first choice. ED:jd t TO THE CITY COUNCIL FROM.
