Police Officer's Association was informed in October of 182 because of a stronc desire to have representatives in touch with our basic needs and our basic rights. Part of which is to have fair representation at the bargaining table and in ali aspects of labor relations, as well as to pen wte charitable and benevolent purposes. These basic rights were not being fulfilled by either the existing benevolent association or labor representatives at the time. We are now the only reoognized bargaining organization for the Police unit of the city since we filed that petition with signatures of 100$ of the sargents and patrolmen. Lodi is a growing city of involved and concerned citizens who care about their oanmunity. Our police association cannot be anything less than that caring or that involved. Tb this camtittnmt the police officers association is urging this council to actively, publicly support Senate Bill X- "The malicious om plaint hill", Assenbly Bill lii- "Binding Arbitrationw, and Senate Bill _637 - "Publication - Fhployer and BVloyee Relations" - loyment practices bill. The Police Association wishes to thank the council for ratifying their recent police contract and for authorizing the additional fair patrolmen. we also wish to expressly thank Councilman Murphy and Councilman Snider in co-signing a letter with the police association and people against child abuse to Governor George Wwmejian for requesting the Governors presence at the benefit held in June for support of prevention of child abuse. Our hearts go out to those unfortunate people wt:,.jse 'lives have been so deflected from the feelings of love and understanding that they commit such cowardly attacks on help- less infants and children.. Even more so, our hearts are with the children whose bodies are being maimed and crippled possibly for life. Most of all, our concern is what child abuse does to the mind of these unfortunate and helpless ones who grow up to believe this is the way life is supposed to be. The same crimes that were co=.itted on them are perpetuated in following generations. At the present time, our government is hard pressed to take care of the obligations it has already. committed itself to be responsible for at this point in time. There is a small group of people who are doing what they can to get the necess&ry funds frog those who are willing to give freely of their own volition to help these unfortunate young- sters. Since last October, there has been numerous meetings with the San Joaquin County "Chil3ren': Services Department", a local fraternal organization. and San Joaquin County area merchants in connection with a charity drive and is well cn its way to becoming one of the largest fund raisers in this area in quite some time. A committee has been formed under the title P.A.C.A. (People Against Child Abuse) consist- ing of eight local people with diversified backgrounds for the purpose of doing what they car. to raise funds for the prevention of child abuse. The members of P.A.C.A. are not a group of bleeding heart zealots but are zealous in thei.K actions and fervently devoted to the purpose of stamping out child abuse. The first of a three-part campaign will be Lodi's Second Annual Beauty and Brida.l Fair to be held March 19, 1983, at the Tokay Bowl, Tiki Room, The Bridal Fair is being sponsored. by Louetta's Institute of Beauty, the Lodi Police Officers Association and Charles Duncan, a local businessman. This guide will be given free to area residents. They have enlisted the help of their membership to solicit Lodi, Stockton, Manteca, and the surrounding areas 17. for ads. Gienda•Hasty, Producer of the "Great American Talent review" is p.^esently involved in the Second Annual "Feels Like Music" production which is the third and final part of this campaign to raise funds for the prevention of child abuse. We, the Committee members of P.A.C.A., watched your progress to the office of Governor of California. We were very impressed with the things you stand for. Your inaugural speech was a confirmation of your desire to fight crime in our state. We are asking your support in any way you can. Tris letter is an invitation to you and/or your staff to attend ,tnyone or all of our shows for the benefit of the prevention of child abuse. A special invitation will follow this letter for you, Governor Deukmejian. If the invitation is accepted, we will make any arrangements necessary to welcome you.
