This vehicle has been utilized as a survey crew van for 13 years, Two years ago, $800 was spent on the side door, seats, engine and the rear doors to extend the life of the vehicle. Presently the vehicle has 87,000 miles and is in need of major repairs, as follows: Sliding side door replace or major rebuild; Overhaul engine completely; Repair rear bumper and body panel; Rebuild steering linkage and power steering; Rebuild three seat assemblies; Replace hinges on both front doors and weather stripping; Replace hinges on bot=h rear doors and weather stripping; and Body work and paint complete, replace interior, front and rear mats, arm rest and window moldings. These repairs will cost approximately $3,000-$3,500 and will be out of service for an extended period of time, as body parts are hard to find due to the age of the vehicle. This vehicle was purchased early in 1971 at a cost of $2,518 and a total of 55,210 has been spent on repairs.. it is recommended that a 1983- model leased window van be purchased as a replacement at this time at a cost of $11,000, including change over of the radio and mounted equipment. Timing is very critical on 1983 model window vans as all leaser dealers are committed to send these vehicles to Southern California for the 1984 Summer Olympics and not to sell them as in the past. After the Olympics, it is proposed that the vans will be sold in Southern California and not returned to the Bay area.
