Pine St. Lodi, Cy 952=0 Dear Councilmembers, The Lodi Grower Vintner Alliance is a coalition of local growers ana. vintners. The group was formed last March with the specific purpose of promoting' the Lodi grape growing region and the wines made from Lodi grapes. Attached is a list cf people who work on the Alliance on a volunteer basis. The Alliance was formed in response to a program started by the Winegror;.ers of California, a statewide wine and grape industry marketing order. The Winegrowers of California will match funds raised by local growers and vintners to promote local winegrowing districts. Last year, the City of Lodi gave the Alliance 56,000. We took that money, added some of our own, and went to the state for mrstcLi.ng funds. With that money, we designed and printed a brcchure (a copy is enclosed in your packet), advertised the Lodi Spring; Wine Show, helped fund the publication of a poster, and put a booth in at the Grape 'festival. This year, we want: ro continue with the same projects (except the poster) and w-.: have added t:qc new projects: a press kit/ direct mail program fcr air.P writers and restaurateurs, and a new design for the billboards on I:ighway 99 at either end of town. A ccpy of our 1986-1987 budget is enclosed. In order to fund our expanded program, we are asking the City of Lodi to give us $8,000 this year. As with last year, we will add this money to the funds put in by the growers aad vintners and go to the Winegrowers for matching dollars. Richard Watts and I will be present at the shirtsleeve session at % A.M. on Tuesday, February 24, to discuss our request with you. Steve Manil.di. representing the Growers and Vintners upgrading the highway billboard His presentation dealt with signs on Highway 99 as you enter Lodi. The upgrading of the billboard signs reflects the same basic Lodi" Brochure ret.ently design as the new Discover the Taste of by the Growers and Vintners Alliance. It was explained published by Mr. Manildi that the Alliance would be seeking funds from the City to complete the project. After some discussion, it was agreed that the billboards needed design a new look. The board also agreed that the recommended would compliment the new brochure as well as the new business directory published by the Chamber adding to the list of projects h designed to market Lodi to visitors. Therefore, it is our hope the City will consider funding the into Lodi from the north g upgrading of both billboards leading and south.
