Detention time allows the student who has been tardy to class or skipped altogether the alternative to being sust)ended. I have recommended to Mr. Cerna that these students serve Community Service time on the Old LUIIS campus doing odd jobs such as scrubbing down the cafeteria building, cricking up trash or scraping the handball courts. The students will be jointly suoervised by the City and LHS administration each Friday afternoon during the school year from 2 to 4:30 p.m. I have discussed this matter with City Attorney Ron Stein who indicates we should have a resolution providing workmen's compensation insurance benefits to volunteer workers without pay. The anticipated beginning community service date is March 13, 1981.
