LepiCownel The Foundation Board of Directors has initiated a new
Robert Kidd CPA fundraising program to finance the development of the
Financial Conine! Community Education Complex. The rebuilding of the
ChadeneLange old music facility is the third phase of developing a cultural
city a#Lxwitmbm and recreational center for the City of Lodi at Hutchins
Street Square.
To date, the Foundation has completed the construction of
a three acre park and most recently retired the near
half million dollar debt of the ten acre site. We are now
engaged in completing the final drawings of the new
Community Education Complex with the Lodi Design Group.
The architect's estimate for the cost of the rehab work
is $400,000.
The Community Education Complex is an 8,000 square foot facility
that will be available as a center for the arts communities;.
The building features space for a children's theatre, the
arts center, complete with a formal hanging gallery, and small
classrooms that are being proposed for use as satellite
beamed university learning centers.
The Council has been most supportive in working with the
Foundation by previously matching dollar for dollar funds
raised for the rebuilding effort. We again ask your support
as this third phase.of fundraising efforts begins.

RECOGNITION
Donors of $1,000 or more will be acknowledged as patrons;
$5,000 donors will be known as benefactors, with both
catagories acknowledged on a brass plaque to be mounted inside
the Community Education Complex.
Individual rooms can be dedicated for donations of $20,000
or more. The theatre may be named after an individual or
business for a donation of $50,000 or more.
Donors needing specific information on the development of
the project should contact Charlene Lange, Hutchins Street
Square Liaison, P. O. Box B4, Lodi, California 05241, or call
(209) 333.6782.
Rebuilding the old music building as a home for the Lodi
arts community is the next step in the continued development
of Hutchins Street Square. This 8,200 square foot two-story
facility, located on the northeast corner of the Square, features
an intimate theatre with seating for 100 people and adjacent
rooms for makeup, dressing, storage and box office. We look for-
ward to offering an educational year-round children's theatre in
this facility.
The Fecond floor, accessed by two open stairways or
elevator is well lit and spacious. The north side of the second
floor will be used by the Lodi Art Center. In addition to a hang-
ing gallery, recreational classes in sketching, painting and
ceramics can be offered.
The final corners of the second floor will be explored for use
as satellite -beamed classrooms for college upper division classes.
An enclosed garden patio area on the east side of the building
and brick paved walkway will compliment the facility. The
estimated cost of rebuilding this facility is $400,000.
3 Fundraising Efforts`
Monies to rebuild Hutchins Street Square are raised through
A memorial contributions, grants, individual contributions and special
events. Last year, the Lodi community raised over $120,000 to retire the
near half million dollar property debt. The volunteer labor force needed
: to coordinate special events such as Field and Fair Day (September 2,
1985) and "A Night in the Girls' Gym" (December 6, 1985) is stagger-
r ing; the shared feeling of hard work and good will from so many com-
munity people reflects the spirit of Hutchins Street Square.

The Foundation is now engaged in securing $400,000 to
remodel the building as a facility for the arts including a small
children's theatre, space for recreational arts classes, and a small
meeting space which could be used for satellite -beamed college
classes. A sculpture garden and brick paved walkway will com-
pliment the 1915 architecture.
Our goal is to secure the funds to initiate construction by
June, 1985.
