COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
SUBJECT: Resolution Establishing a Bus Loading Zone on Century Blvd.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Councli adopt a resolution establishing
a bus load7ng zone on the north side of Century Blvd. extending from the
east property line of Tokay High School to 240 feet west.
The area is presently marked as a passenger loading zone.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: William Cox, Business Manager for the Lodi Unified
School District, and Leroy Carney, Principal of Tokay High School, have
made the request in an attempt to alleviate bus loading problems at the
school.
At the present time, the City of Lodi provides an on -street bus loading
zone which accommodates a maximum of seven (7) buses and the school
an on-site zone which accommodates a maximum of eleven (11) buses. The
buses are parked essentially bumper -to -bumper during loading periods.
Presently, eighteen (18) buses are being used to transport students and
it can be expected more will be needed in the future.
It is Mr. Carney's intent to allot each bus a specific stall along the
curb line with adequate space provided between the stalls to allow for bus
maneuvering.and for the safe passage of students between buses.
This will help in controlling the problem of student congestion during bus
loading, but will decrease the capacity of the on -street zone from 7 buses
to 6, and the on-site capacity from it buses to 8.
The proposed new zone will accommodate the additbnal 4 buses and one other
if needed. SgE)attached sketch. Estimated cost is 575.
