PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director
RECO1ZIENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the sxn of
$8,626.42 as the City of Lodi's portion of
a 50-50 agr,±ement between the City of I.od-
and Lodi Unified School District to purchase a pool cover for Tokay
High School pool.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Through an agreement made some years ago with
the Lodi Unified School District and City of
Lodi., we yearly participate in maintenance and
upkeep of the Tokay High School pool. As such, our yearly costs f Iuc-
tuate between $45,000.00 to $48,000.00, and are rising. A plan, which
was discu. sed with the Recreation and Parks Commission, City P:anager,
myself, as wE11 as administration officials at Tokay High and the
School District, was formulated to purchase a pool cover. By all
indications this cover could reduce operating costs 20 to 40/ or more
annually. (This has been verified by contact ;rith other pool operators
;uc have discussed the purchase agreement with the District Office and
the concept of a 50/50 venture; they have approved the plan and await
our action.
Per Lincoln Equipmenc Company quote, the total cost for the cover would
be;
Cover
Winders
Tax
Freight/Hand ling
Interest on credit
extension
$ 8,662.00
7,155.00
963.84
225.00
$17 ,252. a4
We would advance the School Dstr:et the $8,626.42, which would allow
for immediate purchase, and the District would complete the transac-
tion with a like amount on July 1, 1987.
This arrangement has been thoroughly discussed with the District
administration and the Lincoln Equipment Company and has met with
approval. The School District would handle all purchase specifications,
contract, installation, and maintenance of the cover. We can expect a
minimum of five to six years of life of said cover, plus guarantees
that would*meet our satisfaction.
