TO: THE CITY COUNCIL ODLZ JL MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 1988
FROM: THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE
SUBJECT: INCREASE OFF-STREET PARKING
RECOMMENDED ACTION: The City Council should conduct a Public Hearing to
consider the recommendation of the Planning Commission to mind the Municipal Code
(Zoning) so as to require that all residential units in areas zoned R -LD, Low
Density Multiple Family Eesidential , R -GA, Garden Apartment Residential, R -MD,
Medium Density Multiple Family Residential, and R- HD, High Density Multiple Family
Residential provide two (2) off-street parking spaces per unit, and take the
appropriate action.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Planning Coinmission is continuing to find ways to
assure that future multiple family areas will not experience the problems that
brought about the Eastside Down -Zoning. The proposed on-site parking increase
should help to reduce street parking and to reduce densities in the R -MD and R -HD
areas.
The Planning Coinmission did not recommend changes in the covered parking
requirements. At present two-thirds of all spaces in R -LD and R -GA zoned areas
must be covered. R -MD and R -HD areas have no requirement for covered storage.
