HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - September 28, 1988 (78)CITY COUNCIL MEETIRG SEPTEMBER 28, 1988 PROCLAMATIONS Mayor Pinkerton presented the following proclamations: cc -37 a) "German -American Day" b) "Red Ribbon Week" c) "Fire Prevention Week" d) "National Energy Awareness Month" 14HEREAS, California's economy is t1he seventh largest in the world and third in the use of petroleum-based fuels; and WHEREAS, energy constitutes a $60 billion industry in the Golden State, the single largest element of our economy; and W EREAS, California consumes more than 3 percent of the world's o i I , using more than 42 million gallons of oil a day for transportation alone; and WHEREAS, the cost and reliability of future energy supplies play a major role in California's economic development; and WHEREAS, California leads the nation in developing and promoting the research development, demonstration and commercialization of renewable and al ternative energy resources and technologies ; and V4EPEAS� California continues to pursue program which reduce the state's vulnerability to a world oil supply disruption; and WHEREAS, the federal government has recognized October as National Energy Awareness Month with this year's theme being "Energy Makes America Work". NOW, THEREFORE, I, James W. Pinkerton, Jr., Mayor of the City of Lodi, do hereby proclaim October 1988 as Energy Awareness Month in the City o f Lodi. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set ny hand and caused the seal of the City- f Lodi to be affixed on this 28th day of September, 1988. WHEREAS, it was on October 6, 1683 that the first Germans arrived in the United States; and WHEREAS, today, more than 60 million Americans trace at least a part of their ancestry to Germany; and VflEREAS, the sons and daughters of Germany have served this city and this country steadfastly over the years in all fields; and WHEREAS, the United States Ccnference of Mayors in cooperation with the German Association of Cities and The Federal Republic of Gennany have joined in a cooperative effort to commemorate the invaluable contributions of Americans of Germans ancestry, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that 1, James id. Pinkerton, Jr., Mayor of the City of Lodi , proclaim October 6, 1988 and every October 6 thereafter as DAY and call upon all citizens to recognize the vital role German -Americans have played i n the development of our city and nation.
