HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - September 20, 1989 (78)TO: City Council
FROM: C i t y Manager
MEETING DATE: September 20, 1989
AGENDA TITLE: "No Parking" on the North Side of Oak Street, West of
Cherokee Lace
RECOMMENDED ACTUN That the City Council approve the installation of 40
feet of "no parking" on the north side of Oak Street, west of Cherokee Lane,
as shown on the attached plan.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: A t the August 2, 1989 City Council meeting, hr.
Bullard, a resident on Oak Street, stated that it i s difficult to anter
westbound Oak Street from Cherokee Lane when vehicles are parked on both
sides of Oak Street. The attached letter to Mx: Bullard explains why his
request for a loading zone was not appropriate.
Oak Street is only a 30 -foot roadway. Due to narrow street width, ti ere is a
problem created at the intersection when parking exists on both sides of
Oak. There have been no accidents due to parked vehicles in the past 3-1/2
years. Staff feels that 40 feet of "no parking" on the north side would
eliminate this problem without creating a hardship for vehicles parking in
the area

City staff has reviewed your request presented at the August 2, 1989 City
Council meeting for a "Loading" or "No Parking" zone to create sufficient
room for vehicles turning from Cherokee Lane to westbound Oak Street.
A loading zone at this location would not resolve this problem, out only
reduce its occurrence, since limited parking would be allowed. Staff feels
that a "No Parking" zone on the north side of Oak Street immediately west
of Cherokee Lane would eliminate this problem without creating a hardship
for vehicles currently parked in the' area.
W are planning to present this request with similar locations on Cherokee
Lane at the September 20th City Council meeting. W wi„ send you a Copy
of the Council Communication prior to the Council meeting. If you have any
questions regarding this matter, please contact Paula Fernandez, Traffic
Engineer , at,,333-6706 .
