SUBJECT: RESOLUTION RETIRING THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER LOCATED AT 221 VVEST PINE STREET AS
THE OFFICIAL MEETING PLACE OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 89-106 retiring the City
Council Chamber at 221 blest Pine Street as the official meeting place
of the Lodi City Council.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The official Minutes of the Lodi City Council reflect that the
first meeting held in the present Council Chamber was on February
20, 1928.
Recently, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1456 establishing the Carnegie Forum as
the official meeting place of the City Council.
On September 5, 1989 the Carnegie Fonun will be dedicatea and the September 6, 1989 City
Council meeting will be held in the new Chamber located in that facility.
It seems only fitting that on the occasion of the last Regular City Council Meeting to be
held in the Chamber at 221 West Pine Street that me officially bid farewell to this room
which has served this ccmmunity so well during the last 61 years.

RESOLUTION RETIRING THE CITY CJOUNCL CHAMBER
LOCATED ON THE SECOMD FLOOR OF CITY HALL,
221 VST PINE STREET, LODI
AS THE OFFICIAL MEETING PLACE OF THE LORI CITY COUNCIL,
WHFRFAS, the first meeting of the Lodi City Council in the Council
Chamber at 221 West Pine Street, Lodi was held on Monday, February 20,
1928; and
WHEREAS, Councilmen Hale, Shattuck, Weihe and Mayor Spooner
were present. Councilman Roach was absent due to a serious illness; and
WHEREAS, the following items appeared 'on the agenda of that
meeting:
I) A special committee from the Lodi Churchman's Club
addressed the Council regarding the necessity of enforcing
the State law regarding lights on bicycles and the curbing of
roller skating by children on the streets.
2) Mc Christian Rageth presented a plan for the landscaping
on the south and west sides of Lawrence Park.
3) Communications received included the following:
a) a i etter from F. A. Doughcrty and Sons applying for a share
o.` the insurance on the New City Hall;
b) a letter from Hill's Jewelry Store regarding clocks;
c) an application from G. J. Krieger for permission to operate
a popcorn wagon on the streets.
411 Four building permits for structures totallin- %6,800 were
granted.
5) C4 ty Engineer L. F. Barzel 1 otti presented a tentative plan
for a comfort house fcr Lawrence Park.
6) The following plans for improvements were referred to the
Committee on Finance and Revenue:
Lodi Library E: tensions
City Park Improvements
City Hall lighting Standards
Parking City Hall Grounds
Remodeling of V.1ater Plant
Street Grading Machine
Garage at. City Hall
Barnhart Sewer Extensior.
Tower for Fire Signal
Garage at Maple Square
7) Bills in the amount of S2,422.9; were Approved.
8) The disposal of cannery waste for the coming canning season
was discussed.
9) The program for the public opening of the new City Hall was
discussed.
WHEREAS, during the past 61 years, thic chamber has been the
setting of debate, deliberation, and decision which has resulted in the
stability, growth and development of our City; and
WHEREAS, the City's population has increased from approximately
7,200 to 50,000, and the annexed territory from 1.51 square miles to
9.450 square miles; and
WHEREAS,
over the
years, City
Council Members have given
unselfishly of
their time
and talent in
providing the best possible
government for
the City of
Lodi, and loyal
and efficient civic employees
have dedicated
themselves to
faithfully and
effectually carrying out the
acts of the City
Council;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that it seems only fitting on the
occasion of the last regular City Council meeting of the Lodi City
Council to be held in this chamber that NAe bid farewell to this room
which has served this community so well during these years.

Whereas, the first meeting of the Lodi City Council in the Council
Chamber at 221 West Pine Street, Lodi was held on Monday, February 20,

deliberation, and decision which have resulted in the stability,growth
and development of our City.
The City's population has increased from approximately 7,200 to

Over, the years City Council Menbers have given unselfishly of their
time and talent in providing the best possible governrient for the City
of Lodi. Loyal and efficient civic employcss ' ave dedicated themselves
