MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES PREPARED BY: City 'anager RECOMMENDED ACi1101 : That the City Council approve an adjustment to Management employee saiary ranges of 5.4;, for fiscal 1988-89 effective July 11, 1988. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City Council last year implemented a new ar:d innovative method of setting salary ranges for Management employees. it established percentage differentials between each management class and the City Manager. The plan provides that each year only the City Manager's compensation will be surveyed and an adjustment approved by the City Council based on the results of that survey. The previously established percentage differentials between, for example, the City Manager and the Finance Director, the City Manager and the Public Works Director, etc., remain the same. The results of the survey this year points to an adjustment of 5.4%. Those classes in this Management group are: Administrative Assistant to the City Manager Assistant City Manager Community Center Di rector Community Oevelopment Cireetor Electric Utility Director Finance Director Fire Chief Parks and Recreation Director Personnel Director Police Chief Public Works Director The plan furthor provides that every three years NNe will survey the -they classes as well to determine if the percentage differentials are still in line. Once the salary ranges have been established, the City Manager then sets each department head's salary within the range. The range extends from 10% below the control point to 10% above the control point.
