COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Approve Color for Water Tank, North Main Street and
East Locust Street
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the color of "Silver
Fox" for the new water tank.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Public Works staff has reviewed color charts and
coating engineering data and has spoken with the tank (PDM) and the caating
(Tnemic) manufacturers and the architects who prepared the Parks and
Recreation Corporation Yard Master Plan. The following four colors were
presented to the Council at the shirtsleeve meetin on May 24, 1988. An
informal poll indicated the predominate #1 choice ?4 out of 5) was "Silver
Fox"_
BC72 Silver Fox
BG82 Silver Pearl
BG72 Overcast
AH82 Daily Bread
All finishes are semi -gloss.
The selection of the four alternates i s based on the following:
° High Light Reflectance Value - This is indicated by the last two digits of
th- color code. High reflectance reduces interior heat buildup and
lengthens the life o f the interior coating. This eliminates the darker
shades of any color.
° Color Retention - Colors with reds and yellows (including blends such as
green) will not hold as well as the others. Blues are the best in this
regard. This eliminates the violets, greens and warmer (reddish) shades of
brown. W want a color that wi 11 rade gracefully and not show major
differences around the tank.
° Compatibility with the Skyline - Since Lodi i s so flat, there is no
backdrop other: than the sky. Most views of the tank will be from the
surrounding blocks and will include mostly sky.

° Compatibility with the Tank - Welded seams are more apparent on very light,
glossy colors. This eliminates white and the pale off-whites.
Samples of the recommended colors are attached.
