Dear Member:
This letter is being sent to each councilperson with the full knowledge
of Manager, Tom Peterson.
When the City agreed to purchase my properties at 107 and 109 N. School
Street, over a year ago, the commitment was made on the condition that
the property would pass the County Health Department standards regarding
contamination. It did not.
Approximately three months ago, I found an experienced contractor who
agreed to clean the soil on a partnership basis, thus making it practical
for proceeding. After discussing this with Ton, he assured me that the
City still wanted the property, if clean, and we proceeded with the clean
up. He also agreed to write us a letter confirming this. I have never
received this letter but knowing how busy Tom is we were not surprised.
As you know, what we have already done has been very expensive, and to
provide the testing which the County requires means considerably more
expense. While nothing has changed in our attitude toward Tom, we feel
a letter of intent as promised is only good business, and we ask that this
letter be sent promptly so we can proceed with the Ccunty tesing as required.
Res fully,
MARK NEWFIELD G/
