1111ECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDS
UP,SAN _S_U,EAM RESTORATI N PROGRAM
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City of Lodi adopt a resolution
authorizing application for grant funds provided
by the Department of Water Resources Urban
Stream Restoration Program, for the proposed Mokelumne River -Lodi Lake
Wilderness Area Stream Restoration Project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Department of Water Resources (DWR) Urban
Stream Restoration Program began in 1985 through
the efforts of a coalition of local water
districts, neighborhood organizations,
environmental groups, and city and county government. The objectives of
the program are to assist communities in reducing damages from streambank
and watershed ins ability and.floods, while restoring the environmental and
aesthetic values'(,f streams.
On December 11, 1987, the City of Lodi submitted to DWR a total grant
request of $50,000 to stabilize the stream banks of the Mokelumne River.and
enhance its surrounding watershed environment within the Lodi ` Lake
Wilderness Area, in a manner consistent with the Lodi Lake Master Plan.

URBAN STREAM RESTORATION PROGRAM
;iHEREFS, the Urban Stream Restoration Program has been established by the
California DepartTent of water Resources to assist communities in reducing damages

rom stream: bank and watershed instability am floods while restoring the
environmental and aesthetic values of streams; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lodi recognizes an urgent reed to stabilize the stream
banks of the Mokel umne River and enhance its surrounding watershed environment
within the Lodi Lake Wilderness area consistent with the Lodi Lake feaster Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Lodi Lake Wilderness area provides educdtionai and recreational
opportunities of great importance to the 'local community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LODI:
Section 1. That the City of Lodi apply for grant funds made available through the
Urban Stream Restoration Program, as necessary, to implement the
Mokelurnne River - Lodi Lake wilderness Area Stream Restoration Program
Plan.
Section 2. That the City Manager be designated to submit the application.
