FROM: THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE NOVEMBER 7, 1990 SUBJECT: PURCHASE CF 47 STEEL LIGHT STANDARDS RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council award the bid for the purchase of 47 steel light standards to the bidder whose proposal yields the lowest net cost to the City, Lingo industrial Lighting of Sacramento, in the amount of $20,724.05. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On October 17, 1990, the City Council approved specifications and authorized advertisement for bids for the purchase of 47 steel light standards. Bids were opened on October 30, 1990, with the following results: Lingo Industrial Lighting, Sacramento $20,933.38 less 1% when paid within ten days of invoice. Net cost: $20,724.05 Westinhouse Electric, Concord 20,906.49, net 30 days. Net cost: $20,906.49 Both bidders offered identical poles manufactured by Valmont Industries. Further, Lingo Industrial quoted a four week leadtime, while Westing- house quoted a lead time of four to six weeks. The Electric Utility Department has issued preliminary work orders for the replacement of 39 steel light poles. Recent inspections and tests have revealed existence of metal fatigue in scme of the older standards in the street light system. As a result, the Department is moving forward to replace those poles with new, galvanized steel standards. The additional eight poles would be placed in inventory to provide immediate replacements for other poles found to be deficient. AWATM THE BID FOR THE PLKHASE OF 47 STEEL LICIT STANDARDS WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of this City Council, sealed bids were received and publicly opened on October 30, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. for the bid for 47 steel light standards, described in the specifications therefor approved by the City Council on October 17, 1990; and VVFER A� said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof filed with the City Manager as follows: Lingo Industrial Lighting, Sacramento Westinghouse Electric , Concord $20,933.38 less 1°/when paid within 10 days of invoice Net cost $20,724.05 $20,906.49, net 30 days Net cost $20,906.49 V � the City Manager recommends that award of the bid for 47 steel light standards be made to the bidder whose proposal yields the lowest net cost to the City, Lingo Industrial Lighting of Sacramento; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RE5OLVID by the Lodi City Council that award of bid for 47 steel light standards be and the same is hereby awarded to Lingo Industrial Lighting, the bidder whose proposal yields the lowest net cast to the City, in the amount of $20,724.05.
