THE CITY MAIiAM S OFFICE I OCTOBER 17, 1990 SPECIFICATIONS AND ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS - STEEL LIGHT STANDARDS RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for the purchase of 47 steel light standards. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Electric Utility Depart+nent has issued preliminary work orders for the replacement of 39 steel light poles. Recent inspections and tests have revealed existence of metal fatigue in some of the older standards in the street light system. As a result, the Department is moving forward to replace those poles with new,--- gahvan• zect steel standards. `:The additional eight poles would be placed in inventory to provide immediate replacements for other' poles found, in the future, to be deficient. The estimated cost of this purchase is $20,500, with funding available in the Public Works/Street Light Maintenance account. Harris rchasing Officer TQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS STEEL STANDARDS GENERAL Equipment furnished shall be tested and approved, according to procedures set forth by I.E.S. specifications, and shall meet the minimum standards set forth in the ASTM and EEI-NEMA latest revisions. STEEL STANDARDS A. Standard: Standard shall be hot -dipped galvanized steel per. ASTM A-123. The standard shall be anchor -base. type. The shaft shall be round and tapering. Base shall be welded. `Standard shall be in compliance with ASTM A-570 and made of 10 gauge steel for minimum yield strength` of 33,000 PSI' before forming or. 11 gauge steel for minimum yield strength of 48,000 PSI before forming. Anchor base shall be:- of ASTM A-36' steel plate and shall be designed to withstand the full bending moment of the shaft. Steel castings shall conform to ASTM A -27 -Grade 65035. A ground lug accepting #6 AWG copper conductor shall be provided- with easy access through the handhole only. The standard shall be similar in design to the following: Valmont Cat. No. Bclt Circle (Range) Item 1: DS50-7.5A270-8S 10.5" (10"-11") Item 2: DS50-6.6A270-8S 9.5" ( 9"-10") B. Arm: Each standard shall be supplied with one A' long arm. The upsweep .(rise) height of the arm shall be 3' nominal. Arm shall have raintight fitting and be bolted type. C. Bolt Covers: Bolt covers shall be supplied with each standard. D.
