Cable Television Rate Adjustment
Attached is a nmD (Exhibit A) from Ms. Deama Enright, General Manager, King
Videocable Company (CATV) advising the City Council of a rate adjustment in
cable television service. Those customers subscribing to the limited basic
service which is no cable channels (ESPN, CNN, Turner Broadcasting, etc.) will
receive an increase of $.70 per month ($14.30 to $15.00). The additional
charge for the cable channels will be $.30 per month ($2.20 to $2.50). Thus
customers subscribing to both services will receive an increase of $1.00 per
month.
The passage by Congress in 1984 of the Cable Communications Act removed from
the City Council all authority with regard to the setting of rates for cable
television service. This communique is presented for information only.

Dear Tom:
The 1990's promise to be an exciting decade for cable television.
The quality of programming and the choices for programming continue to
increase. In turn, we have renewed our commitment to quality customer
service. We provide installation appointments 6 days a week. We shifted
our office hours to 9:00am to 6:o0pm to meet customer needs. We are
responding to 80% of our service calls on a same day basis. Our goal is
90%. Our system reliability (a ratio of total viewing hours of all
customers as a % of outage hours) is 99.9997%. Our goal is 99.9999%.
This would be equivalent to a total system outage for 1 hour per year. We
are setting and meeting very high standards for our system operation.
At the same time we face rising costs. Our programming costs have
risen dramatically as we have added new channels and received increases
for existing channels. Effective October 1, 1990 the following changes
will be made:
old rate new rate
limited basic $ 14.30 $ 15.00
cable channels $ 2.20 $ 2.50
We will continue to concentrate our efforts on system reliability,
quality programming, and excellent customer service. It is our privilege
to serve the community.
