HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - September 5, 1990 (59)3u$,MC2:_ SELF-INSURED RETENTION, WITH CALTIP
PREPARED BY: Assistant City Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Council approve a $0 self-insured retention for
insurance with CalTIP.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: When the City joined Ca1TIP on July 1, 1990, we put
our application on a fast track and made,.. application
by telephone pending Council's approval= ::.:This was -.in
order to save premium dollars on our purchased
transit insurance.
Due to a misunderstanding, we were granted membership on a fully insured basis
with no deductible rather than a $25,000 deductible.
One July 3, 1990 one of our Dial -A -Ride vehicles was involved in an accident and
the driver cited. It now makes excellent sense to stay with the no deductible
policy. Ca1TIP has advised us that our membership was granted on that basis and
are not pushing us to change.
We were billed and have paid premium deposit for a'$0 self-insured retention.
In order to provide the proper audit trail, Council is requested to rescind
Resolution 90-102 of June 20, 1990 and authorize membership in CaiTIP at at $0
setf-insured retention
Respectfully submitted,
rerry. Glenn
Assistant City Manager
