Stephens Construction Company, Inc., for 2011 Disabled Access Improvements Project ($64,278) MEETING DATE: August 17,2011 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt resolution authorizing City Managerto execute Contract Change Order No. 1 with A. M. Stephens Construction Company, Inc., for 2011 disabled access improvements project in the amount of $64,278. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On July 20,2011, City Council awarded the 2011 disabled access improvements project to A. M. Stephens Construction Company, Inc., of Lodi, in the amount of $59,572.30. This project is part of the City of Lodi's 2009 Community Development Block Grant Recovery (CDBG-R) allocation and consists of the modification of existing parking stalls for the purpose of constructing Americans with DisabilitiesAct (ADA) compliant accessible parking stalls. The project cost ($71,000) is significantly lower than the allocated CDBG-R funds ($140,000). Staffrecommends amending the contract to include Contract Change Order No.1 to install additional wheelchair ramp improvements with in the Block Grant area. Contract Change Order No. 1 would install additional wheelchair ramps at the following locations: 1. The southeast corner of Pine Street and Main Street. (This is the remaining corner at this intersection which does not have a wheelchair ramp.) 2. All four corners at PleasantAvenue and Louie Avenue. The cost of the additional work is $64,278.
