REPORT REGARDING REQUEST
THAT PARK RANGERS BE ARMED
CC -16 The City Council received a report advising that the Lodi
cc -34 Parks and Recreation Commission at its July 3, 1990 meeting
recommended that the Park Rangers not be armed but
provided with bulletproof vests. The bulletproof vests
had been ordered.

On July 3, 1990, at the regular monthly meeting of the Lodi Parks and
Recreation Commission, we discussed the agenda item "Firearms for
Park Rangers".
After staff reports/findings and recommendations, ranger and public
presentations and discussion by the Commission, it was recommended by
the Commission that the rangers not be armed but provided bullet-
proof vests. As stated, this was the recommendation from the
Commission to the Council on this issue. (The vote was 4-1 with
Mr. Johnson voting no.)
