AGENDA TITLE: Accept Improvements Under Contract for Municipal Service Center (MSC) Shop
Decommissioning Project

RECOMMENDEDACTION: Accept improvements under contract for Municipal Service Center
(MSC) shop decommissioning project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On March 2, 2011, City Council awarded the contract for the MSC
shop decommissioning project to Diede Construction, of
Woodbridge, in the amount of $44,675. The contract has been
completed in substantial conformance with the plans and
specifications approved by City Council on January 19, 2011.
The project, located at the MSC, consisted of removal and disposal of the 2,000 -gallon waste -oil
underground storage tank and related piping, removal and disposal of four hydraulic lifts, removal and
salvage of exhaust recovery system, environmental testing of soils and the decontamination of rinsing
fluid, removal and disposal of demolition debris, backfill, compaction, sub -grade preparation, concrete
placement, and other incidental and related work. There were no change orders and the final cost of the
project was $44,675.
Following acceptance by the City Council, as required by law, the City Engineerwill file a Notice of
Completion with the County Recorder's office. The notice serves to notify vendors and subcontractors
that the project is complete and begins their 30 -day period to file a stop notice requiring the City to
withhold payments from the prime contractor in the event of a payment dispute.
FISCAL IMPACT: This project will increase the usefulness of the building and mitigate
potential environmental liability.
FUNDING AVAILABLE: Funding for this project was shared between the Water Capital Fund
(181095), Wastewater Capital Fund (171095) and Street Measure K
Maintenance (325095) accounts.
