BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project will apply extruded thermoplastic product on approximately 10 percent of all lane line marked City streets. Extruded thermoplastic material has proven to be a superior product to sprayed thermoplastic. Although extruded thermoplastic costs approximately 12 percent more than sprayed thermoplastic, it is expected to last 67 percent longer (five years vs. three years). A recap of the types of lane line markings and quantities for this contract is shown below: TRAFFIC STRIPES MILES Broken White 1.87 Broken Yellow .60 Double Yellow 1.75 Eight -Inch Solid White .30 Four -Inch Solid White .10 Continuous Left 2.83 Six -Inch Solid White 26.4 Total Miles 10.33 Staff recommends Council approve specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for extruded thermoplastic lane line marking on various City streets. The specifications are on file in the Public Works Department. FISCAL IMPACT: The annual cost for traffic stripes will decrease by 33 percent using the longer -life product. FUNDING AVAILABLE: Funding for this project will be from Street Fund (302035) and Measure K (325035). F.
