PUBLIC WORKS DE••
TO: City Council
FROM: City Manager
MEETING DATE: January 18, 1989
AGENDA TITLE: Gefer Sidewalk Installation at 310 South Main Street
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council defer requiring the installation
of sidewalk at 316 South Maine Street.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In the fall of 1988, the Council required prooerty
owners on Lodi Avenue between Lower Sacramento Road and Cherokee `ane to
instal 1 sidewalk on their Lodi Avenue frontage. The Public Works Department
prepared the necessary notifications and included sketches of the work to to
done.
In determining the work to be done at 310 South Main Street, there were a
number of problemr encountered. This property is undeveloped and is missing
some curb and gutter. I t also has a Central California Traction Company
railroad spur crossing the no-thwest corner of the parcel (the southeast
corner of Lodi and Main). Because of the tracks and the grade of the
pavement, nearly all of the sidewalk and curb will be flush with the existing
pavement. In effect, the property owner would he removing asphalt sidewalk
and installing concrete sidewalk (see attachment).
In addition, no drainage is available at this corner. In heavy rains, the
runoff actually runs onto the parcel from the surrounding streets.
Funds are presently budgeted for preliminary engineering on a street
rehabilitation project on Lodi Avenue from Main to Cherokee. The project
will include work on the tracks as well. It is recommended the engineering
include the drainage problem as well, so the entire problein, including the
sidewalk installation, will be corrected at one time.
Therefore, it is recommended the
time of the 11reet improvements.
