Fight Mile Road Stockton.C.lifornia t)52(KJ 1209) 944-2444 San Joaquin County is growing; of that we are all aware. The speed with which it is growing makes it more important than ever to anticipate problems and needs which may arise as a result of that growth. There is an area along the north side of the Mokelumne River between Highway 99 and Mokelumne which is currently undeveloped. This area is a riparian wetland, and as such has become an increasingly rare environmental habitat. Hundreds of years ago, riverside wetlands such as this were commonplace throughout California's Great Central Valley, but now these remnant areas are only reminders of past times. This certainly doesn't diminish, but rather increases the importance of such a place. A riparian habitat ,,E rich to both plant and, animal life. Such an area, left in it,:5 natural state, can offer immeasurable eniorment tc thec1tl?ens of San Joaquin Count): grid to those whu will follow us.
