COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Participation in Statewide Purchasing Program Jointly Sponsored by League of California Cities and County Supervisors Association of California MFFIM DATE: November 20, 1991 PREPARED BY: Finance Director RECOMMENDED ACTION That the City Council adopt the attached resolution approving and authorizing participation in a state- wide purchasing program jointly sponsored by the League of California Cities and the County Supervisors Association of California. BACKGROUND P47ORMATION On September 18, 1991, the League of California Cities notified member cities of the program, initiated to secure volume discounts and produce cost savings for cities and counties throughout the state. Initially, the program offers discounts on airline tickets, providing City officials the opportunity to fly round-trip on any Southwest Airline flight in California for $89.00. In addition, the program provides discounts of 60%or more on office and systems furniture offered through Haworth and Herman Miller, two manufacturers of high-quality furniture. The League anticipates adding other products to the program in the future, possibly one new'product per quarter. The City of Lodi currently participates in a purchasing program sponsored by the State of California Department of General Services. That program offers substantial discounts on anon,-,::ition, highway flares, Steelcase office files, PC software, lamps, and other materials and equipment. FUNDM : None required. PETERSON recycl,d paper CITY OF LODI, STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION NO. 91-217 IN THE MATTER OF A RESOLUTION APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN A STATEWIDE PURCHASING PROGRAM The following resolution was duly passed by the City Council of the City of Lodi at a regular meeting held November 20, 1991 by th4 following vote: Ayes: Council Members - Hinchman, Pennino, Sieglock, Snider and Pinkerton (Mayor) Noes: Council Members - None Absent: Council Members - None Signed and approved bw mo nftor itc nnccnrro Attest: By AlTC M- RFTMMF City Clerk . WHEREAS, the City has expressed an interest in participating in a statewide purchasing program jointly sponsored by the County Supervisors Association of California and the League of California Cities; and WHEREAS, a lead public agency has been designated to contract for volume discount pricing on certain products and services for the benefit of public agencies throughout the State of California; and WHEREAS, the City proposes to participate in the statewide purchasing program to generate savings on the goods and services offered under the program; and WHEREAS, Government Code Section 6502 authorizes the City to participate jointly with other public agencies in such a program; RES91217/TXTA.02J Resolution No. 91-217 Page Two NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby RESOLVED, ORDERED and DETERMINED as follows: SECTION 1. The City's participation in the statewide purchasing program jointly sponsored by the County Supervisor's Association of California and the League of California Cities, is hereby approved and joint participation is hereby authorized pursuant to the provisions of Government Code Section 6502. SECTION 2. The Mayor, City Manager, the City Clerk and other designated officials of the City and all other proper officers and officials of the City, are hereby authorized and directed to execute purchase orders and documents and to perform such other acts and deeds as may be necessary or convenient to effect the purposes of this resolution and the City's participation in the statewide purchasing program.
