AGENDA TITLE: National Arts and Humanities Month

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Present proclamation proclaiming October 2009 as National Arts
and Humanities Month in the City of Lodi. National Arts and
Humanities month is coordinated by Americans for the Arts, the
national organization working to empower communities with the resources and support necessaryto
provide access to all of the arts for all of the people.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This month-long celebration is the largest annual celebration of the
arts and humanities in the nation. On Thursday, October 22, 2009,
the Division of Arts and Culture, along with the Lodi Arts
Commission, will be hosting its seventh annual Arts Open House. Representativesfrom many of Lodi's
arts agencies, as well as instructors from the City's Division of Arts and Culture, will be on hand to speak
about their programs, demonstrate their crafts, and distribute information about their organizations.
This free event, suitable for the entire family, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in Crete Hall and
Charlene Powers Lange Performing Arts Theatre at Hutchins Street Square.
