AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Computer Terminals for Police Department
MEETING DATE: August 19, 1992

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution
authorizing the purchase of 13 computer terminals from
Hemorex-Telex, under State of California bid, for the
amount of S9,410.24.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On July 15, 1992, the City Council authorized the
allocation of funds from the Asset Seizure Account to
purchase computer equipment. as well as firearms, for
the Police Department. This purchase represents the
first part of the computrr equipment acquisition program.
Planned for use in the Police Department's Detective Divieion. these thirteen
Hemorex-Telex Model 1477 -CX display stations are designed to be fully
compatible with, and connect directly to, the Department's IBM AS/400 computer.
Additionaily, they are designed to function in a dual -session mode, meaning
the user can be working in two separate data bases or programs concurrently.
Recently, the State of California bid to Supply computer equipment to varioue
state agencies was awarded to nemorex-Telex. In the ongoing effort to expand
cooperative public purchasing, the bid pricing was made available to all
cities and counties in California. The bid price of 5671.80 plus tax for
these Model 1477 -CX terminals represents d 53% savings off list price, and
nearly a 35% savings off IBM's government price for a similar unit.
FUNDING: Account 23.0-012.02-500 Equipment Fund.
Total cast, this purchase: $9,410.24

WHEREAS, Lodi Municipal Code Section 3.20.070 authorizes
dispensing with bids for purchase of supplies or property when it is in
the best interests of the City to do so; and
AREAS, On July 15, 1992, Council authorized the allocation of
funds fran the Asset Seizure Account to purchase computer equipment;
WM, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council
hereby approves the purchase of 13 computer terminals fkem Memorex -
Telex under State of California bid, in the amount of $9,410.24.
