BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The following communication was received between the dates of April 29, 1992 and May 11, 1992. Attached marked Exhibit A is a letter from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) advising it had filed Application No. 92-05-003 with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in which it requests authority to increase electric and gas rates. PG&E seeks to recover a total of approximately $10.2 million in costs for two environmental projects: a groundwater investigation for petroleum hydrocarbons at a former PG&E service center in Antioch (approx. $240,000) and a soil remediation project at a former manufactured gas plant site in Sacramento (approx. $9,965,000). This proposal would result in an increase of electric rates by approximately $168,000, and gas rates by approximately $10,037,000.
