BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The foilowiag communication was received between the
dates of April 7, 1092 and Apri? 28, 1992.
Attached, marked Exhibit A, is a Notice of Filing for Increased Electric and Gas
Rates received from Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Pr&E filed Application
A-92-04-001 on April 1, 1992 with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC),
requesting to increase tits electric rates by $190.6 million, and its gas rates by
$3.3 million. If approved, these rate changes would be effective on January 1, 1993.

Pacific Cam and Company (PG&E) filed an Application
(A.92-04-001) a Y, 1992, with the California Public
Utilities Comsission (CPUC), requesting to increase its
electric rates by $190.6 million, and its gaa rates by $3.3
million. If approved, these rate changes would be effective
on January 1, 1993.
PG&E has requested an increase in electric rates to cover
PG&E's estimated costs of ei,ergy production and purchased
poorer. Tho request also includes increases in gas and
electric rates for costs associated vith Customer Energy
Efficiency (CEE) programs.

If the CPUC approves this request, a residential customer who
uses 500 kilowatt hods of electricity monthly will sea an
incraase of approximataly $1.59, from $59.59 t o $61.18 per
month during the winter season (Noveaber through April).
During tho satae period, customers who use 100 therms of gas
monthly will see an increase of approximately $.08, from
$61.50 to $61.58 per month.
Moorings
Before acting on the Application, the CPUC will hold public
hearings beginning in June of 1992. At these haarings, tha
CPUC will receive the te.stimony of PGLE, the CPUC'*
independent Division ^i Ratapayer Advocates, as well as
interested parties.
Parties at these hearings M y offer propo"Is to the CPUC
which differ from those of PG6E. After considering these
various proposals, the CPUC will issue a decision.
