AGENDA TITLE: National PublicWorks Week Proclamation

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Present a proclamation proclaimingthe week of May 17-23,2009,
as "National PublicWorks Week in Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Public Works Week is a national event to educate the public on how
important the contribution of PublicWorks is to their daily lives. This
year's theme is "Revitalize, Reinvest, Renew." National Public
Works Week calls attention to the importance of PublicWorks in
community life and seeks to enhance the prestige of the often -unsung heroes of our society —the
professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication. These unsung heroes are the
men and women in PublicWorks who plan, design, build, and maintain our water, wastewater, drainage
and street systems, City buildings, and fleet; who are responsiblefor the City's transit and solid waste
services; who play a role in the quality of life in our community; and who are helping to move life forward.
A representative of the Public Works Departmentwill be presentto accept the proclamation.
