AGENDA TITLE: Review Conceptual Plan for Kofu Park
Batting Cage
MEETING DATE: March 18, 1992
PREP7.RED BY: Parks and Recreation Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: To review conceptual plan and location of Kofu
Park Batting Cage and give approval for project
t'velopment.
BACKGROUND INFORMAT-r""- At the meeting of the City Council of
. -..cy 19, 1992, the Parks and
Recreation Department staff, Boosters
of Boys/Girls Sports organization
(B.O.B.S.) and Tokay High School baseball program reviewed with the
Council a proposed location of a batting cage at Kofu Park. The
suggestion of the Council, after review, was to 90 out to the site,
look over the recommended location, and explore possible other
sites for this installation. As such, Director Williamson was
asked to set up tours of the site with the Council and report back
their findings at the next meeting, March 18, 1992.
I have met with four of the five Council people at this time, and
it was generally felt that a better location would be in the back
area of the Park, behind the hardball backstop, and adjacent to the.
corporation yard fence on a high ground area.
A member of the B.O.R.S. organization was present, as was Tokay
High varsity coaches, Paul Lovotti and John Nilmeyer. Generally,
at the site, there was discussion as to how it could work, pros and
-ons, and some detailed thoughts for construction.
The B.O.B.S. representatives will be present at the Council Meeting
to discuss their views on the project and the new site. Tokay High
representatives, likewise, will be asked to be present to discuss
the project in more detail.
See Exhibit A - original plan/location.
see Exhibit B - revised plan/location.

FUNDING: I remind the Council that the "batting cage" project
would be funded by the B.0.B.S./Tokay High baseball, with
minimal City involvement. They would likewise be
constructing the area and purchasing all materials,
fencing, pitching machines, etc.
