BACKGROUND INFORMATION: UV lamps are major components used in the disinfection system at WSWPCF. The City no longer uses chlorine compounds to treat wastewater. To remain in compliance with its discharge permit, the City needs to install 725 new UV lamps in four banks of the UV disinfection facility. The bulbs being replaced have reached the end of their useful life The lampswill be supplied by Coombs-Hopkins/DC Frost, the representative for Trojan Technologies, Inc., the sole supplier of replacement parts for the system. The lamps will be installed by City staff. FISCAL IMPACT: $115,000. Failing to install the lamps would subject the City to state fines.
