Grading

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This information is being given to the City Council in accordance
with the Contract Change Order Policy approved by
Resolution 85-72. One of the requirementsof this policy is that we
inform the City Council of all change orders where the total of all
change orders exceeds $25,000.
The attached Contract Change Order No. 3, approved by the City Manager, was in the amount of
$48,600, which is 18% of the original contract. Contract Change Order No. 3 also extended the contract
completion date to December 31, 2008. The original contract price was $266,578. Contract Change
Order No. 1 deleted several items from the contract and also included weed control for the entire park
area and the replacement of a block wall with chain link fencing. The changes in Contract Change Order
No. 1 resulted in a net contract decrease of $87,584.50.
In October 2006, AM Stephens Construction, the contractor on this project, requested additional time to
complete the excavation and grading of the park. In exchange for the additional time, the contractor
continues to be responsiblefor weed control and the maintenanceof storm water pollution prevention
control measures. Contract Change Order No. 2 was executed to extend the contract completion date to
October 31, 2008.
The work in Contract Change Order No. 3 includes the installation of approximately 144 lineal feet of
42 -inch storm drain pipe. This storm drain pipe was part of the Lower Sacramento Road widening project
between Harney Lane and Kettleman Lane. It was removed from the Lower Sacramento Road project
because the installation of the storm drain pipe would have caused a conflict with the grading work being
done in DeBenedetti Park by AM Stephens.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
FUNDING AVAILABLE: There are Vfficient funds budgeted in the original project appropriation fo
