AGENDA TITLE: National Arts and Humanities Month

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Present proclamation proclaiming October 2008 as National Arts
and Humanities Month in the City of Lodi. National Arts and
Humanities month is coordinated by Americans for the Arts, the
national organization working to empower communities with the
resources and support necessary to provide access to all of the arts for all of the people.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This month-long celebration has become the largest annual
celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation. On Thursday,
October 16, 2008, the Division of Arts and Culture, along with the
Lodi Arts Commission, will be hosting its sixth annual Arts Open
House. Representatives from many of Lodi's arts agencies as well as instructorsfrom the City's Division
of Arts and Culture will be on hand to speak about their programs; demonstrate their crafts: and
distributes information about their organizations.
This free event, suitable for the entire family, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Crete Hall
and the Charlene Powers Lange Performing Arts Theatre at Hutchins Street Square.
