Century Blvd. MEETING DATE: May 7,2008 PREPARED BY: Interim Parks and Recreation Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept Improvements under contract for the Henry Glaves Park and Beckman Park Restroom Replacement, 2206 Oxford Way and 1426 W. Century Blvd. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The projectwas awarded to Diede Construction, of Lodi, on September 5, 2007, in the amount of $347,994.08. The contract has been completed in substantial conformance with the plans and specifications approved by City Council. The project consisted of removing and disposing of the existing metal restroom structures, concrete foundations, concreteflat work and disconnecting the existing underground utilities. The contractor then furnished and installed two plant -fabricated restroom facilities. The final contract price was $364,351.09. The difference between the original contract price and the final contract price is due to three Contract Change Orders. Contract Change Order #1, in the amount of $13,290, was prepared to cover the cost of furnishing and installing aggregate base underthe two building pads. This item was required by the building supplier but was not included as a bid item in the proposal. Contract Change Order #2, in the amount of $3,077, was issued to cover the additional cost to increase the electric conduit size at Henry Glaves Park. The existing conduit was too small to be reused for the new electric service. Contract Change Order #3, in the amount of $4,600, covered the cost to perform additional grading along the new sidewalks and building pads. Following acceptance by the City Council, as required by law, the Interim Parks and Recreation Director will file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's office. The Notice serves to notify vendors and subcontractors that the project is complete and begins their 30 -day period to file a stop notice requiring the City to withhold payments from the prime contractor in the event of a payment dispute. FISCAL IM PACT There is no direct impact to the Parks and Recreation Department budget for the installation of the new restroom improvements. The 2000 Park Bond Act Per Capita Grant program supported the installation of this project in its entirety. There may be a slight decrease in maintenance costs as the new buildings are replacements for structures that were approximately 30 years old.
