Jarrod Mays to be located on the corner of Lodi Avenue and Washington Street

RECOMMENDED ACTION: The City Council adopts a resolution approving the purchaseof
pergola art piece titled "Better Days" to be located on the corner of
Lodi Avenue and Washington Street ($86,000)
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Art Advisory Board was approached by City Staff with a
proposal for an art piece to be included in the Eastside Mobility and
Access Plan at the Smart & Final site. Artist Jarrod Mays' art piece
"Better Days", was selected by a jury which included members of
the Art Advisory Board and a citizen member at large on October 24, 2007. A presentation of the
proposed art piece was made to City Council on March 5, 2008. Mr. Mays provided samples of the
materials he will use to construct the art piece during his presentation. The project completion is
tentatively scheduled for December 2008.
FISCAL IMPACT: Due to the durability of materials, fiscal impact is minimal.
FUNDING AVAILABLE: The suggested budgetfor the art piece is $100,000. Artist proposal of $86,000
includes the design, transportation, engineering and installation of the art work.
As of February 29,2008, funds availai,41�in the Art in Public Places Budget are $483,577.

RESOLUTION NO. 2008-73
A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF PERGOLAART
PIECE TITLED "BETTER DAYS FOR THE CORNER OF
LODI AVENUE AND WASHINGTON STREET, AND
FURTHER APPROPRIATING FUNDS
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby
approve the purchase of the art piece "Better Days" to be located on Lodi Avenue and
Washington Street by artist Jarrod Mays; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds in the amount of $86,000 be
appropriated from the Art in Public Places Fund for this project.
