California. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On March 19,2008, the City Council approved specifications and authorized advertisement for bidsfor a 55' material handling bucket truck. The following bid was received and opened on April 10, 2008, BIDDER AMOUNT Alter Industries, Dbcon CA $197,452.95 Terex UW§m Inc, Saawnento CA NO BID American Truck and Trailer, Tracy CA NO BID Terex Utilities Inc (manufacturer of Terex equipment) of Sacramento, California and American Truck and Trailer (a representative of Versalift) of Tracy, California do not manufacture a boom or 1 i equipment as specified and elected not to submit bid proposalsfor this solicitation. The material handling bucket truck will be a replacementfor an aged bucket truck (#09002) which was sold at auction in October 2007 for $9,100. (For information, the Electric Utility Department (EUD) also sold a surplus "digger derrick truck to Merced Irrigation District in December2006 for $183,165.) A significant portion of the Department's distribution and sub -transmission system is composed of overhead power lines. Construction, maintenance and inspection of overhead lines are performed most efficiently, rapidly and safely from bucket trucks. The demand on the Department's existing buckettruck, which is shared by two crews, has been significant. As a result, this specialized piece of equipment is only available for some jobs, resulting in inefficient utilization of staff and delays in completing work. This situation is compounded during times when the existing bucket truck is unavailable due to break downs and/or required maintenance. FISCAL IMPACT: Allow staff to complete construction projects and Service restoration in a timely manner.
