MEETING DATE: March 18,2009 SUBMITTED BY: Human Resources Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution Approving Modification to Memorandum of Understanding for AFSCME Council 57 Local 146 -AFL-CIO Maintenance and Operators Unit. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: AFSCME Council 57 Local 146 -AFL-CIO Maintenance and Operators Unit is the last group to agree to modifications to its Memorandum of Understanding to help the City reduce expenses in FY 2008-09. Staff has reached the following tentative agreement that results in the same cost savings as the initial tentative agreement that was rejected by the Maintenance and Operators Unit on February 25, 2009: Maintenance and Ooerators Unit a) Acceptance of 6 unpaid furlough days from March 1, 2009 through June 30,2009. FISCAL IMPACT: Savings of approximately $111,000 in salary and benefits. FUNDING AVAILABLE: Not applicable. Respectfullys itted (Dean dualc�, Human FWsources Manager APPROVED: ing, City Manager RESOLUTION NO. 2009-34 A RESOLUTION OF THE, LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING MODIFICATIONS TO THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR AFSCME COUNCIL 57 LOCAL 146 -AFL-CIO MAINTENANCE AND OPERATORS UNIT WHEREAS, due to the status of current fiscal affairs, cost-saving measures are required to be implemented; and WHEREAS, staff has negotiated tentative modification to all employees' salary and benefits, and because each bargaining unit is unique the techniques used to achieve salary and benefit savings are unique to each group; and WHEREAS, with adjustments to salary and benefits as outlined below, the City will see a savings of approximately $111,000 by implementing the following: Maintenance and Operators Unit a. Acceptance of 6 unpaid furlough days from March 1, 2009 through June 30,2009. WHEREAS, it should be noted that the focus of these modifications is the last four months of fiscal year 2008-09. The key union group understands that additional discussions will occur prior to adoption of the fiscal year 2009-10 budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that modifications to the employee Memorandum of Understanding as outlined above are hereby adopted.
