COUNCIL COMMUNICATION

AGENDA TITLE: Discuss and Endorse Potential Economic Stimulus Projects
MEETING DATE: January 21,2009
PREPARED BY: Deputy City Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Authorize the City Manager to send the attached communication to
the California Partnership for San Joaquin Valley.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Federal Government is in the process of developing and
approving an economic stimulus package. A key component of that
package is expected to be an infrastructure jobs program. The California Partnership for San Joaquin
Valley has asked that each of the cities and counties in the Valley prepare a list of "shovel ready" projects
that could be quickly implemented. City staff have identified the projects in the attached for submission
for funding underthe proposed economic stimulus package.
FISCAL IMPACT: Proposed projects total $89.25 million and are estimated to generate in excess of
764 construction jobs and approximately 30 ongoing jobs. It is not possible to
determine which, if any, of these projects will be funded under the proposed
economic stimulus package and what conditions might be placed upon such
funding.
