BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Lodi was incorporated on December 6, 1906. Plans are underway to have a year long celebration of Lodi's Centennial throughout 2006. The Centennial presents a rare opportunity to reflect on the past 100 years, give special recognition to those events or people who made the greatest contributions to the City, and enhance the community by leaving markers of this Centennial milestone through commemorations. The first City Council meeting of Lodi's Centennial year (January 4, 2006) will include the following presentations: • Proclamation(s) • Police Centennial Badge • Tree Lodi introduction and "Growing the Next 100 Years" Project • Lodi Centennial Task Force introduction • "Wall Dogs" Mural Project • Unveiling of the Lodi Centennial banner • 100'h Year "birthday' cake c_ Susan J. CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TM AGENDA TITLE: Police Centennial Badge General Order MEETING DATE: January 4, 2006 PREPARED BY: Jerry J. Adams, Chief of Police RECOMMENDED ACTION: Chief Jerry Adams will present General Order #33 introducing the Police Centennial Badge, which is the official badge of the Lodi Police Department during 2006. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Chief and various police staff will be present to display the Lodi Police Centennial Badge and the replica Lapel Pin to the Council. FISCAL IMPACT: JJA:sm Attachment: LPD General Order 33 cc: City Attorney None 14L- — Jerry J. ams Chief of Police APPROVED: / c'/ Blair King, City Manager LODI POLICE SUBJECT: CENTENNIAL GENERAL DEPARTMENT BADGES ORDER: #33 PAGE 1 OF 1 ISSUE DATE: DECEMBER 16, 2005 EFFECTIVE DATE: JANUARY 1, 2006 AMMENDS: -0- RESCINDS: -0- Effective January 1, 2006, all full-time Lodi Police employees, Reserve Officers, and the Lodi Police Historian, shall be issued a limited edition 1906-2006 Lodi Police Centennial Badge. This badge shall be the official badge of the Lodi Police Department for one year only, from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006. At the end of this one year period, staff will retain their Centennial Badge as personal property. The original badge purchase was made by the Police Officers Association of Lodi and employees reimbursed the Police Officers Association of Lodi. No other full size badges will be issued. Partners, Cadets, and other volunteers will be provided with a replica lapel pin size badge free of charge, paid by the Lodi Police Foundation, and may wear that on their uniform during the above time period. The Lodi Police Foundation will offer replica lapel pin Centennial badges to members of the Public for a $5.00 donation. It is recognized that after one hundred years of dedicated service to the Lodi Community, the men and women of the Lodi Police Department proudly wear a replica badge worn by their predecessors one hundred years ago.
