BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City Clerk's Office posted for expiring terms on various boards and commissions at the City Council meeting of November 1, 2006. The 30 -day application period has since expired; however, very few applications were submitted for the Recreation Commission and the Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee. In an effort to generate a larger selection pool, the Mayor has suggested that the following expiring terms be re -posted for another 30 -day period. While we currently allow non- residents to serve, i find it unusual that so many members of the Commission do not live in Lodi. A survey provided to me recently by the City Clerk shows that 32 of 48 California cities require members of "permanent Boards and Commissions" to be residents. Our current City policy encourages the Council 4o give preference to Lodi residents who are registered voters. I hope the extension of the application filing period is not a great inconvenience.
