MEETING DATE: October 5, 2005 PREPARED BY: Jerry J. Adams, Chief of Police RECONWENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the City Manager to accept a donated vehicle to the Lodi Police Department PARTNERS Volunteer Program from the Lodi Lions Club. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The PARTNERS program has five vehicles to use, three of which need replacement. The Lodi Lions Club, working with Vienna Convalescent Hospital and Sanborn Chevrolet, would like to donate a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado truck, VIN #1GCCS136258136071, to the City of Lodi for the PARTNERS Program. Pickup trucks are an especially beneficial vehicle for the Partners because they are often called upon to haul barricades for special events, to pick up property and evidence at crime scenes, and to remove shopping carts. FISCAL IMPACT: This vehicle would not be an addition to the fleet, but would replace the 1992 Dodge Dakota truck (D5101), currently assigned to Partners. Because this is a newer vehicle with a remaining two year warranty and only 28,000 miles it should not have a negative impact on vehicle maintenance. The Dodge Dakota truck will be utilized by our volunteer cadets on a limited basis and a vehicle from Animal Services will be retired so these changes will not add any vehicles to the City's fleet.
